About Vega
Around Vega.
Worth a stop
The Oldham County Courthouse square has been the hub of Vega since 1915, hosting community events like the Summer Market and Christmas on the Square. The town also has the Milburn-Price Culture Museum and the 1944 Vega Motel, a Route 66 tourist court.
A little history
Vega, Spanish for meadow, was first settled in 1899 by N. J. Whitfield and platted in 1903 along the new railroad. In a 1915 special election, the town won a five-year fight to move the county seat here from the old cowtown of Tascosa.

The Oldham County Roundup is a multi-day end-of-summer celebration with a parade, free barbecue, street dance, live music, and team roping with working cowboys from area ranches.
On the map since
1903. Took off when the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Texas line (later the Rock Island) got its right-of-way through the townsite, making Vega a trading center.

Vega and the Oldham County roads
Vega has been the hub of Oldham County since the Rock Island came through in 1903, and the courthouse square still anchors the place. What has not changed is the geography: a small town with a lot of open country attached to it.
That country is where wired internet gives up. Licensed fixed wireless does not. A radio link from a tower to a small antenna on your roof covers ground that no cable company was going to trench for a handful of meters. Ranches, farms, and houses on the county roads around Vega are all in play.
Ask about upload if you work from home or run anything from a shop or barn. Cameras, video calls, cloud software, and backups all run on upload, and it is the part rural connections have always been thinnest on.
Local techs do the installs, so a service call is a drive across the county rather than across the state.
