The 1927 Hutchinson County Courthouse anchors the town square, with friezes depicting the petroleum, farm-and-ranch, and cattle industries. The square also holds the Isaac McCormick Pioneer Cottage, an 1899 settler home turned museum.

A little history

Stinnett started in 1926 as a railroad shipping point named for Albert Sidney Stinnett of Amarillo. Promoters sold $400,000 worth of lots in four months with 'Dollar Day' picnics, and a special election that September moved the Hutchinson County seat here from Plemons.

Stinnett took the Hutchinson County seat in 1926 and the 1927 courthouse on the square still has friezes showing the petroleum industry that paid for it. The oil business is still here. So is a lot of open country between the places where people live.
