German Catholic settlers founded Lindsay in 1891, and the town celebrates March 25, 1892 as its birthday, the day the first Mass was said in a settler's home.

Lindsay began as a railroad switching station in 1887 and was then promoted as a German Catholic colony by the Flusche brothers. St. Peter’s, rebuilt in 1918 after a tornado, is still the landmark.
