A little history

Farmington was settled in the mid-1870s and originally called "Farmingtown" after the irrigation cooperative that watered local orchards. It sits at the confluence of the San Juan, Animas, and La Plata rivers and incorporated in 1901.

Farmington and San Juan County

Farmington incorporated in 1901 and took its name from sitting where the San Juan, the Animas, and the La Plata come together. Three rivers meeting is a good reason to build a town, and it made Farmington the commercial center for a very large piece of the Four Corners.

Large is the operative word. The city itself has options. San Juan County around it runs for miles, and out there the wired footprint thins out the way it does everywhere else we work.
