About Dumas

Around Dumas.

Worth a stop

Window on the Plains Museum, 1820 S. Dumas Ave, preserves Moore County's farming, ranching, and pioneer history on a 10-acre site.

A little history

Dumas was platted in January 1891 and named for townsite company president Louis Dumas. A grasshopper plague and a brutal winter nearly wiped the town out in the 1890s, but it rebounded once the railroad came through.

Mark the calendar

Dogie Days, a June celebration at McDade Park hosted by the Dumas Noon Lions Club, with a carnival, parade, food booths, and barbecue. It's named for a "dogie," a motherless calf.

On the map since

1891. Louis Dumas and the Panhandle Townsite Company put the town on the map, and it became the Moore County seat when the county organized in 1892.

Getting internet in Dumas

Dumas is one of the towns where fiber is already in the ground, which puts it ahead of most of the Panhandle. If your address is on the fiber route you can get a symmetrical connection, meaning upload as fast as download. That matters more than people expect. Video calls, security cameras, sending big files to a co-op or a broker, backing a laptop up to the cloud: all of that runs on upload, and upload is exactly what the old options starved you of.

If you are outside the fiber footprint, licensed fixed wireless covers most of Moore County. It is a radio link from a tower to a small antenna on your roof, and it does not care that there are eight empty miles between you and the next house. That is the whole reason it works out here where cable never came.

Either way the install is done by a technician who lives in this area, not a contractor routed in from three hours away. If something goes sideways on a Saturday, you are calling somebody who knows which road you are on.

Not sure which one reaches you? Put your address in the checker above and somebody will call you back with a straight answer.
