Worth a stop
Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, on the West Texas A&M University campus. It's the largest history museum in Texas, with more than three million artifacts.
A little history
Canyon was founded by Lincoln Guy Conner, who settled the site in 1887 and laid out the town in 1889. When Conner refused to have it named after himself, a local blacksmith suggested Canyon City after nearby Palo Duro Canyon, and the town became the Randall County seat that same year.

Canyon, and the country around it
Canyon has a university in the middle of it and open country a few minutes out in every direction, which makes for two very different internet problems in the same zip code.
In town, the question is usually quality: whether a connection can carry a student’s coursework, a video call, and somebody streaming, all at the same time on a weeknight. Out past the city limits it gets simpler and harsher. There often is not a wired option at all.
Licensed fixed wireless answers both. It is a radio path from a tower to a small antenna on your roof, and its coverage follows terrain rather than whatever a cable company decided was worth trenching. Houses scattered along the roads toward Palo Duro, the places on the county roads outside town, all of that is servable.
Installs and service calls are handled by people who live in this area, which tends to matter most on the day something goes wrong.
