The Hutchinson County Historical Museum, housed in a 1927 building downtown. Its exhibits cover county history from Coronado's expedition through the 1920s oil boom, and it displays a copy of Thomas Hart Benton's painting "Boomtown," sketched on a visit to Borger.
A little history
Borger was founded in 1926 by town promoter Ace Borger after oil was discovered nearby, and more than 45,000 people flooded into the boomtown within 90 days. It got so lawless that Governor Dan Moody sent in the Texas Rangers to clean it up in 1927.

Boomtoberfest, Borger's annual fall festival held every October, with a Main Street classic car cruise, a car show, live music, carnival rides, and a community fish fry that carries on the town's old "World's Largest Fish Fry" tradition.
