A little history

The name Beclabito comes from the Navajo Bit'aah Bito', meaning "water underneath." The community is named for an underground spring, the only water for miles around, found by its founder, known as Hastiin Bitlahnii, or "Mr. Underneath," who settled beside it.

Beclabito

The Navajo name here, Bitl’aah Bito’, means water underneath, and it points at the spring the community is named for. Beclabito Dome rises right beside it, red Entrada Sandstone with views across to Shiprock and the Carrizo Mountains.

It is a small community in a big stretch of San Juan County, and that is the whole difficulty in one line. Running wired service out here has never made financial sense to a national carrier, and there is no version of the future where it suddenly does.
