About Adrian

Around Adrian.

Worth a stop

The Midpoint Cafe and the Route 66 Midpoint sign. Adrian sits at the exact midpoint of Historic Route 66, 1,139 miles from both Chicago and Los Angeles, and the cafe (known for its "ugly crust pies") is the town's signature stop.

A little history

Adrian got its start in 1900 as a Rock Island railroad survey stop west of Amarillo, and the town formally began in 1909 when the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway came through. It was named for local farmer Adrian Cullen.

On the map since

1909. Grew up when the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway was finished through this part of the county, with a land company working to bring settlers in.

Most towns up here were put on the map by a railroad inside about twenty years. Here is how that happened →

Halfway to everywhere, and still hard to reach

Adrian sits at the exact midpoint of Route 66, 1,139 miles from Chicago and the same from Los Angeles. Being famous for being in the middle does not help the internet any. A few thousand cars a day pass through and almost none of them leave infrastructure behind.

Licensed fixed wireless covers Adrian and the Oldham County country around it. A tower sends a radio signal to a small antenna on your roof, so the distance between one place and the next stops mattering. There is no line to trench, which is the reason service can reach a house eight miles out that no cable company would ever quote.

If you run a business on the highway or work from home, ask about upload speed rather than the download headline. Upload is what carries card readers, video calls, cameras, and backups.
